Jon and Louise toured both the western and eastern parts of the country and then departed for Delhi on January 30th.
Jon and Louise began their stay in Bhutan in Central Bhutan with VSC alumnus, Asha Kama, and his brother-in-law, Garab Dorji. They have seen “wonderful landscapes, a rare Black Necked Crane sanctuary, and monasteries and Dzongs (old fortress castles).”
Jon and Louise are having a wonderful and exciting time in Bhutan, but they have limited access to WiFi. As soon as we receive more pictures from them, we’ll update the blog.
Jon and Louise visit with recent VSC resident Asha Kama in Bhutan
VSC Founder Jon Gregg is on a 10-week trip to Asia developing VSC’s Programs in China and the Himalayas; visiting VSC alumni in China, Nepal, India, and Bhutan; and also spending several weeks visiting major Tibetan Buddhist pilgrimage sites. Founder Louise von Weise recently joined him in India.
More photos from Tso Pema:
On January 5th, Jon flew from Kathmandu to Delhi, spent a night there in the Tibetan refugee colony, and then made the thirteen hour drive to Tso Pema.
From China, Jon flew to Kathmandu, and the following shots include images of Tsherin Sherpa and his father, Tenzing Norbu’s son Tashi, the Great Stupa in Boudanath, Bouda during the Mon Lam holiday, the faculty at the Kathmandu University MFA Program, daily mountain top journeys, Khachab Rinpoche in his gold jacket and topknot, Bahktipour, student monks at Bonpo Monastery, Swayaimbouda, Mahabuddah Temple, meditating in the caves where Tilopa and Naropa—the fathers of the Kargyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism—meditated, and Kathmandu street shots.
The VSC office was closed for the winter break, but we’ll spend the next few days catching you up on Jon’s travels in Asia…
